Disney Cupcake Charm Bracelet

Even though I'm 15, I still love Disney. In my opinion, it's one of those things that you just don't outgrow. I've been working on this charm bracelet that has cupcake versions of the six main characters, because cupcakes are awesome. The charms are made out of polymer clay and the chain is from Home Depot. You can get simple chain for very cheap there. Some may not be very pretty (because it's mainly used for construction work), but others it can be cute, depending on how you use it. I used the gold one they had and made a bracelet out of it, then used the rest to make a purse strap.

Anyway, here is what it looks like:

And me wearing it. For the clasp, all I had to do was open up one of the links at the end a little bit. It hooks right on.

Here are the close-ups of the charms:

Donald

Minnie

Mickey

Goofy

Daisy

Pluto

Sorry if the lighting is kina weird. I took these pictures at my desk, which is near my window.

I Think This Quote Is Hilarious!

"Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves and, of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys they'd just walk around naked at all times."

-Betsey Johnson

When I was watching the DVR-ed season premier of the season 10 premier of Project Runway last night, they had fashion quotes, which they have never done before. I thought it was pretty cool. They had ones from Chanel and other designers, but this one from Betsey Johnson stood out to me the most. Today, I just had to google it so I could write it down. I think it is funny because it's so true about most guys. Even my dad says that there is no point in dressing up when you're going out shopping because no one is going to look at you. But, I am the girl who likes to dress up and do my makeup for no reason. It's fun. It's a thing that most guys probaby just don't get.

Friday's Manicure: Black and White Flower

Every Friday, I re-paint my nails. Friday is always the most convienent day for me to do it. Most of the time, it's nail art. Anyway, this past Friday I did this black and white flower design. It took me a while to actually get this post up, but here it is;

I used Claire's white nail polish (can't remember the name), then I used the Sinful Colors black striper polish to paint the flower on my ring finger and swirls on my index one. For the rest and outside the flower, I used Miliani's Disco, which is a pink glitter. Then I put hot pink rhinestones on my designs. I really like how this turned out. It looks kinda sketchy, if that makes any sense. I think I might let this go for two weeks instead of one.

This is the close-up of my ring finger. I reccomend clicking it to make it bigger so you can see the design. The rhinestone is a little hard to see, but it was hard for me to get the angle and the entire flower at the same time.

And here is the swirl design. I think it compliments the flower really well. It kinda goes with my bedding in the background, too... :)

So Much Going On...

As you all may know, there was a shooting in a movie theater in Colorado. The movie was the midnight premier of the newest Batman movie. Also, however, the roof of the mall nearest to me collapsed and caused a flood. It will be closed for a while. I can't afford anything in there, anyway. It has a bunch of designer stores. This day has been very eventful and depressing. But, my thoughts are still with the victims of the Aurora shooting.

What I Made Last Night

At around 9-10:00 I had creative urges. It sucks when it happens late at night, but it's the summer, so I didn't have anywhere important to go in the morning. Since I felt like working with my polymer clay, I made an apple ring. I used the pastel sculptey set and some black clay (I can't remember the brand). The set had green, white, and yellow, so I made the band green. For the apple slice, I mixed white with a tiny bit of yellow, to make it a little more realistic. Then, I mixed green with a little white and yellow to make the skin. With a sculpting tool, I added texture to it. For the seeds and stem, I mixed black, white, and yellow to make a tiny bit of a dark brown. It took a while to get all the colors just right, but I think I made them perfect.

Since the band was made out of clay, it was flimsy. Once I got it in a perfect(ish) circle, I didn't want to mess it up. I baked them seperately and glued them together with a hot glue gun. The ring was a little loose on the sides, so I just put a little glue on the inside. The problem is, now it's almost too small! It fits, but it's hard to get over my knucle when I take it off.

The Worst Power Outage In My Life (so far)

Ok, the title may be a hyperbole, but it was still not pleasant. Living in North Carolina, it gets hot and humid in the summer. When you don't have ac, it's just plain miserable. The power went out at around 5 last night because of a storm that knocked a tree down a few houses down from me. It didn't come on until 8:45 the next morning. The power company couldn't get their machines into the neighbor's yard, so it took longer than it should have. But, not only did I have to sleep without covers because I was sweating like crazy, I also had to have candles and a flashlight on. I get very clausterphobic in the dark, so much that I can't breathe, so I have to have light or else I panic and can't sleep. But, I was safe and used tealights, which only last for a couple hours, and they were enclosed in holders near nothing flamable. My aunt's cat also kept me company. Somehow I made it through the night. It was hard and I didn't get much sleep, but we have power now and that's all that matters.

Hey! I'm August and I am fifteen years old. My family used to be more well-off, but since the recession we've been having to make the most out of what we have. The blog is going to be about being a girly girl without spending much money and about living with my disabilty and anxieties. Plus, just typical life stuff. I will also have teenage book reviews and maybe some tutorials. Every Friday, I re-paint my nails, so I will show pictures of them. I also have a youtube channel that has a few videos. They are not the best quality because my camera is more of a picture-taking than a video camera. But, they are still clear enough to see. If you want to check it out, my username is myrandomobsessions.
